Education / Networking

Education

AWS holds an annual conference in the fall in conjunction with the American College of Surgeons. AWS meetings provide the opportunity to meet other women who have similar aspirations and obstacles. We share ideas and strategies to address the challenges faced in their personal lives and professional careers. Click here for more information.

Networking Breakfasts

AWS holds Networking Programs throughout the year in conjunction with the surgical meetings of various organizations. During the networking events attendees exchange ideas, ask for help, offer answers, and develop friendships. Without a doubt, this two-hour program fills a need.

AWS Discussion Listservs

AWS has created four discussion lists for AWS members only. Click here for more information on these valuable networking tools.

American College of Surgeons Chapter Representatives

Thirty ACS Chapters now have AWS representatives on their councils. That is almost half, but there is still more work to be done. AWS members in states that do not have an AWS representative can request appointment to their Chapter Council. Margaret Kemeny, MD, FACS has a master list and suggestions for activities for the representatives. Click here for more information on the current AWS representatives.

Corporate Partners Program

The Association of Women Surgeons has established the Corporate Partners Program to give companies an opportunity to make a commitment in the development and promotion of women surgeons worldwide. Click here for more information.

Students/Residents

AWS strives to meet the needs of students and residents during their training. Click here for more information.

Career Development Resources

Many young surgeons lack adequate mentorship to guide them in their chosen career path. The Association of Women Surgeons' goal is to provide a reference containing fundamental information and contacts to help develop a successful surgical career. It offers information about different surgical specialties and career choices (both private practice and academic). Click here for access to this valuable reference. Click here for Job Postings.
